Phexxi is a bioadhesive gel that works by keeping the vaginal pH acidic enough to decrease sperm motility. Vaginal fluid is naturally on the acidic side, but seminal fluid is alkaline and raises the pH of the vagina to help sperm survive. Phexxi helps to counteract that.

  • Phexxi is administered intra-vaginally with the applicator ideally right before intercourse, or within 1 hour of intercourse. 1 application protects for 1 act of intercourse only.

Side effects of Phexxi: About 2% of women may experience vulvovaginal burning sensation, itching, yeast infection, discomfort, and pain; bacterial vaginosis (BV) and vaginal discharge; genital discomfort; and pain while urinating. More serious side effects (experienced by 0.36% of participants) included bladder inflammation, kidney infection, or another upper urinary tract infection (UTI). Some male partners may report localized genital discomfort, such as burning, itching, or pain.

  • Do not use Phexxi if you or your partner have an allergy to any of the active ingredients: lactic acid, citric acid, and potassium bitartrate. Inactive ingredients: glycerin, alginic acid, xanthan gum, sodium hydroxide, benzoic acid, and purified water.

Efficacy: Phexxi, when used appropriately, is 86% effective against preventing pregnancy. It is recommended to use this with another form of birth control (except NuvaRing) to improve pregnancy prevention.

  • Important: Phexxi does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.

F2C female condoms are made from nitrile and are latex-free. F2C is lubricated with a silicone-based lubricant inside and out. There is no spermicide.

Efficacy: F2C condoms, are when used appropriately, are 95% effective against preventing pregnancy and additionally provides protection against sexually transmitted infections.

Natural Cycles birth control app is 93% effective with typical use of the app alone for pregnancy prevention. This can be used in conjunction with other birth control methods to increase effectiveness.
