What’s in the Advanced Heart Panel?

Basic Lipid Panel

  • Cholesterol, Total

  • HDL Cholesterol

  • Triglycerides

  • LDL Cholesterol

  • Non-HDL Cholesterol

Advanced Heart & Inflammation Markers

  • Lipoprotein Fractionation, Ion Mobility - Looks at the size and particle numbers of your cholesterol. When it comes to LDL and HDL particles, size matters. Smaller is not good!

  • Apolipoprotein B - A better indicator of your overall load of “bad” cholesterol and atherogenic risk.

  • Apolipoprotein A1 - An overall assessment of your “good” cholesterol.

  • Lipoprotein (a) - A genetically influenced type of “bad” cholesterol. High levels indicate a higher risk of plaque build-up in the arteries and an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

  • OxLDL (Oxidized LDL) - Think of this as “rusted” LDL that can cause inflammatory damage and plaque formation in your arteries.

  • Lp-PLA2 Activity - Measures vascular-specific inflammation. High levels can suggest cholesterol actively building up in your arteries.

  • ADMA - High levels reduce nitric oxide that’s needed to keep the lining of your arteries healthy.

  • MPO (Myeloperoxidase) - High levels indicate you may have vulnerable plaque and progression of cardiovascular disease.

  • TMAO (Trimethylamine N-Oxide) - Generated from gut microbial metabolism. High levels can worsen plaque formation.

  • Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids - You want a higher ratio of anti-inflammatory Omega 3 to pro-inflammatory Omega 6.

  • +/- hs-CRP if not already ordered in the Foundations Panel - In addition to indicating general levels of inflammation, this can also indicate increased vascular inflammation.

As with all custom lab orders, we’ll add or subtract biomarkers and other panels to personalize it to your needs.

Lab interpretation is not black and white. There are often nuances and gray areas. Your labs will be analyzed and interpreted by a board-certified medical doctor taking into consideration the context of YOU and your health story.
